Students
Many Slovak, Czech and other international students wish to pursue their careers and establish themselves permanently in Australia. They ask the following question:
Can I apply for permanent residence in Australia?
It can be a frustrating process for many foreign students to navigate the transition from a student visa to becoming an Australian permanent resident. In recent years, the Australian government has addressed some of the obstacles that international students face when attempting to qualify for permanent residence. Generally, you may be eligible to apply if you have,
in the past six months, completed a degree, diploma or trade qualification in Australia over a period of at least two years of full time study at an approved educational institution.
After completion of your studies, if you want to stay in Australia for an additional 18 months to gain work experience, or enhance your professional English language skills you are able to apply for a temporary unlimited work rights visa.
The ability to gain skilled work experience is an important factor for Czech, Slovak and other international students, as it allows them to gain valuable Australian work experience and can be critical for their prospects to lodge a successful permanent residence visa application.
